Does the Routica Explorer router support a guest Wi-Fi network?
How does the guest Wi-Fi network work on the Explorer?
The main feature of the Explorer guest Wi-Fi network is that it's a separate network, in which guest Wi-Fi clients are only permitted internet access.
Guest Wi-Fi clients are not able to access the main Explorer's Wi-Fi network, any devices on it, nor access the Routica Media Player. This isolation prevents guest Wi-Fi clients from accessing your shared files, printers, or other devices on your Explorer's main network.
In summary, the Explorer guest Wi-Fi network provides a secure and convenient way for visitors to access the internet without compromising your Explorer's network security and privacy.
How do I enable the guest Wi-Fi network on the Explorer?

What is a VPN and how does it work?
How does the Explorer VPN feature protect my data?
The VPN feature disguises the real IP address of the router and replaces it with an IP address of the VPN server its connected to. This makes it much more difficult to track your internet activity and location. It also creates a secure tunnel between your devices on the Explorer and the VPN server. This helps to safeguard your data from malicious entities.
Can Routica VPN bypass geographical restrictions?
How can VPNs help remote workers?
How do I set up VPN on the Explorer?
- The Explorer's owner is required to purchase a VPN account via a 3rd party VPN provider.
- Some examples of 3rd party VPN providers include, but are not limited to: NordVPN, Surfshark, IPVanish, TotalVPN, etc. Once you have a valid VPN account, the VPN provider will supply you with a Username and Password.
- As well, you will need to download the OVPN file that is required by the Explorer from the VPN provider.
- Then, using the Mobile App, you will enter the VPN configuration area, insert your Username and Password that was supplied from your VPN provider, then provide the OVPN file accordingly.
How does the Explorer Wireless Gateway Router use a SIM card?
This means that the Explorer is dependent on the SIM card and its registration / provisioning in order to access the internet. If the SIM card is not registered or provisioned properly for use with the cellular carrier network, it will never be able to access the internet.
Do cellular carriers require IMEI registration for the Explorer?
In some instances, you may still be able to freely swap a sim card into different devices without requiring carrier IMEI registrations. Again, this is dependent on the carrier and the data plan attached to the SIM card.
What happens if my Explorer's IMEI is not registered with my SIM card's data plan?
Without this IMEI registered / provisioned on your sim's data plan, the Explorer will NOT be able to access the internet.
Will my SIM card work in other devices without registering the Explorer's IMEI?
How do I register or provision my Explorer's IMEI with my cellular carrier?
What is port forwarding and how does it work on the Explorer?
It works by defining a port on the Explorer public (WAN) IP address to a specific port on a client device within the main LAN network. What this does is allow devices outside the Explorer main network to access services like game servers, web servers, or other applications hosted on devices within the main LAN network.
Devices within a local network (like a home or office) have their own private IP addresses. The Explorer connects to the internet with a public WAN IP address, shared by all devices on the local network.
Each service or application on a client device uses a specific port number (e.g., port 80 for web traffic, port 21 for FTP). When port forwarding is configured, the Explorer will direct incoming traffic on a specific port to the corresponding device and port within the main LAN network.
What are common use cases for port forwarding?
- A game server is running on a computer within the Explorer's LAN network. Then, port forwarding can be configured to direct gaming traffic on a specific game port (e.g., 25565 for Minecraft) to that computer's IP address and port. This allows online multiplayer games to be played by connecting to a game server hosted on the main LAN network.
- Port forwarding also allows file sharing and file transfers between client devices on different networks.
- Remote access to devices such as a remote desktop or managing home security systems and smart home devices.
How do I configure port forwarding on the Explorer?
- Determine which protocol will be used by this port forward.
- Determine the WAN source port that will be used.
- Determine the IP address of the LAN client device.
- Define the destination port of the LAN client device.
- Enter the details into the Port Forwarding configuration in the Mobile App.

- By default, the Explorer's guest Wi-Fi network is disabled.
- If you wish to use the Explorer's guest Wi-Fi network, it is easily turned on from the Routica Mobile App.
